GILDY's AFTERNOON

Year 3 and 4

Gildy has had a morning full of numeracy and snow. It's lunchtime now and Gildy's dad has made Gildy, Tully and himself a healthy lunch. Gildy knows he needs to eat foods that help keep him healthy but when Dad opens the fridge to get some orange juice, Gildy spies something very exciting....

To start off Gildy's Afternoon, play the video below!

Watch and listen carefully.

What are Gildy's thoughts this lunchtime?

This is Gildy.

Gildy is 7 years old. He lives in Epsom which is a town in Surrey near London and goes to St Martin's Cof E Voluntary Aided School.

Gildy is in the same situation as lots of other children all over the country at the moment.  He is having to attend online lessons and some days Gildy finds it very difficult to feel motivated and focused.

Gildy's family are all trying to get on with each other in this strange situation of lockdown. Gildy's dad is working from home and his mum is a key worker at Epsom Hospital. She is out every day and very tired when she's home. Gildy has a younger brother, Tully, who loves to play games.

Gildy sometimes finds it difficult to focus, finds numeracy a challenge and doesn't always like asking for help to solve problems. However, Gildy can be clever, Gildy is kind, he loves to play outside and be part of stories, and likes his friends and family to be happy.

Gildy definitely went off an adventure in his head just then!   It looks like Gildy has to make quite an important choice that will affect his whole afternoon.

We're going to look through Gildy's choices but don't make a decision right now. At the moment we're going to see what Gildy's choices are and then discuss the pros and cons of each one.

WHAT ARE GILDY's CHOICES?

THINKING TIME!

On your sheet of  paper draw three columns

for A, B and C.

Let's get thinking.

What are the pros and cons of each choice?

How will eating the biscuits affect Gildy? If he ignores them could somebody else eat them? He could make biscuits for everyone with his dad but what would Gildy have to do to make that happen?

YOU CAN WIN THE CHANCE TO VOTE OFF (if you're working in a group) OR ELIMINATE THE LEAST HELPFUL CHOICE THAT GILDY COULD MAKE BY SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE CHALLENGE BELOW....
